Some Motivation for You

As you start losing, go shopping! I went to Chico's on Sunday. I decided to finally try on a pair of jeans after wearing "stretchy-type" pants for years. I tried on the 3...too big...I tried on the 2.5...too big...I tried on the 2...too big...I tried on the 1.5...just right...WOWIE! (For those not in the know, a zero is smallest at Chico's.)

It is exciting to start changing your XL mindset! I also went to Target for all new workout pants since my old ones now slip down my hips when I run...not comfortable and potentially embarrassing!

Wow - I'm so jealous! Truthfully I think it's just as important to me to have fun shopping as it is to be healthy. My main goal right now is to be able to shop in a store with regular sizes (instead of plus)!!!

That is totally me! As I started this journey at 291 in January 2009, I swore never again to shop at Lane Bryant or in the women's plus section of any store!!! I forced myself to wear only clothes I actually had in my closet until I could shop in the regular section of a "normal" store...no new clothes (except workout clothes at the outset) until that requirement was meetable! It FEELS really good...

I am also noticing that at my current weight of 190 that I am smaller as I go down than scale than at the same weight years ago as I went up the scale. After all, it went on as fat (which takes up more space) and it is coming off and leaving muscle (which takes less space). So, in the end, though my goal weight is 145...with all the muscle maintained and less fat, I may be at a 145 size when I hit 160 or so. Can't wait!

Same here! I told myself when I started that I'm not buying anything new until I can buy it in a regular store!! Some of the clothes I'm wearing now are pretty lose, but I have some smaller sizes I "saved" from a long time ago. I just want it to go so much faster than it is!

I have been shopping Goodwill and getting 12's. Until those fit I have been buying empire waists dresses that are 12's/mediums so they fit now but will look even better later.

I just have to have nice clothes as I go that is my main motivation. After about 30 lbs I started shopping and found that the plus sizes were too big. I left the store with tears in my eyes and headed across the mall to the "regular" stores.

I love reading these comments because that is exactly what I wanted was to be able to shop in a regular normal size people store. I hate the plus size departments. I hated shopping for clothes period. Lately I have had to buy some things because my other clothes were so big and it feels so good. It puts the fun back in shopping for me. Sometimes I try on clothes just to see if they fit. What a great feeling when they do and just more motivation when they are so close.

I have had clients doing that for so long. I think it puts their goals in perspective and drives their motivation. They actually can see what they are working so hard for.

Small visual goals are so much better than some number on the scale.

Sounds fun Conni. I can't wait until I can buy pants in any store. I'm not quite big enough to have to go to a "Big & Tall" shop, but big enough that I have to go to stores that I know carry a slightly large range of sizes.

Today I'm wearing a pair of pants that I haven't fit into in years (but held on to them because I knew I'd make it back down to this weight sooner or later). They are size 46, down for wearing a 50 just 4 weeks ago.

I have a pair of 44s in the back of my closet, but I'll need a few more weeks to get into them. 44 or 42 is usually the largest size a regular store carries, so I'm almost ready to go on a shopping spree.

Right on Mike! Just another example of success.... Congrats...

And I like that idea Conni about the group training. Too bad you guys arent around my area cause I would do weekend sessions with everyone for free. I think it would be fun. Plus I would love to train a group in an outdoor setting once in a while.

Mike -

I have found in the past (and holding true this time too) that ever 10 lbs is about an inch in waist. So every 20 lbs is another waist size down.

Is that what you are seeing in your comparison.

Graycast: That's about right. I'm 30 lbs down and 2 sizes down.
