| I have been on the BG now for 5 weeks and I have only lost two pounds. I always have deficit at the end of the day. More than 500. I work out at lunch for 40 minutes M-F burn about 240-300 calories. Could I not be doing enough to burn more calories? By 9:00 pm I have burned generally 1700-2000 calories? Weekends have been a little tough to get to the gym. Any suggestions? :) |

| I have consistantly lost 2 lbs a week for 7 weeks. I am eating 1300 to 1500 calories a day and I make sure I burn at least 2500 a day. Some days it is very hard to reach 2500. If I make 3000 one day I have a day where I can take it easy. It does work if you consistantly have 1000 deficit a day. I am extremenly diligent in logging my food, including any dressing, sauce or condiments I use. Good luck in the coming weeks. |

Did you find it difficult in the beginning?

Hi Yisa - It might not be your calorie burn, it could be an incorrect estimation in your daily food logging. I've been on the plan for over a year and had to learn over many weeks how to ensure I was logging foods correctly. It's very easy to underestimate how many calories you're taking in, which could offset your 500 calorie a day deficit.
I don't believe the food log options on the site are very accurate. Try sites like www.thedailyplate.com and www.calorieking.com for typical foods. A lot of restaurants have nutritional info on their websites as well if you tend to eat out often.
If eating packaged or processed foods, take notice of the sodium intake and drink lots of water. Additionally, just to be safe, I add about 15-20% to my calorie intake estimation, and it works.
And don't forget to log everything! Every little bite, every little sip. Weigh all your foods and try to eat fresh and organic when possible.
If you feel you're entering all your foods correctly, try kicking up the exercise a bit more, add another 20 minutes to your day.
Good luck and hang in there!! |

Hi, I also find I need to burn about a 1000 more cal than I eat in order to lose 2lb every two weeks. I don't know if something I'm logging is wrong, or if I'm grassing more than I realize or if my body is slow. I know that my thyriod is slightly lower than normal but still healthy that maybe it.
If you find after a month or two that nothing is happening, print out your food log report and your calorie burn report and take them to your doctor. She may be able to tell you what to tweak or test you for various things that may effect your abiltiy to lose weight. Things like your hormone balance and your ability to process nutritents may cause problems. I'm not a doctor though so I don't know for sure. |

Yisa-
Just a question: If by the end of the day you have burned 1700-2000 calories giving you a deficit of over 500, how much are you eating?
It sounds to me, just from what you said, that you arent eating enough. I mean, from the looks of it you are barely getting 1000-1200 calories. You body is hurting by not getting the fuel and nutrients it needs.
I know it sounds crazy, but I think you need to eat more before you start seeing the loss. Youre starving yourself and thats not the way to lose weight. Your body is most likely in "retain everything you give it" mode.
If I were you, I would try a new plan. I would say up your intake to 1750-2000 and push for a deficit of 500-750 just to start. Getting to that burn is gonna take some work if you are used to 1700, but trust me, you can do it. It takes motivation and lots of sweat.
Watch for Conni, RunningGirl, Michelle, Howard, Fattest Guy, everyone really. There are some amazing success stories here, a few of which I just named.
Just dont lose sight of your goal or lose motivation. You just need to tweak some things you are doing to reach them. You can do it, just dont be scared to ask for help.
I, myself, am a trainer and there are a couple of us here. But you really need to listen to those here who have and are still going through the lifestyle changes you are going through. They know first hand, and have motivated and inspired many here, myself included. |

I lost 100 pounds eating 1100 calories a day and I'm 51 and all the while felt better than when I was 16 ...
Most of us are very optimistic when we log food, to the point where if we think we have a 500 deficit it might not be nearly that much. Look for ways to get that calorie burn up higher without spending a lot of your life in the gym. Enjoy the process, be patient, time is not the goal, time will pass no matter what. |

If you are getting 1,000 to 1,200 calories in per day at your height your are fine. Especially if you are burning as few as 1,700 on some days.
You need to up your caloric expenditure...aka move more
It takes a deficit of 3,500 calories to lose one pound. If you are exact at recording your caloric intake then you should lose exactly one pound when you hit the 3,500 calorie deficit since the BB is 91% accurate.
I would suggest a deficit of 700 calories per day. Also try to get in 2 tsp of healthy oil like olive oil per day as it has shown to help decrease any plateaus since your body "feels" the intake of fat in spite of it being good fat.

| Thank you for all the advice. This really helps and motivates me :) I really think Im not moving enough. I have a desk job and as of 11:15 this morning I have only burned 908 calories and only 11 mins of activity. So defintly need to get moving :) |

Be careful though. As great as a huge deficit sounds, its not always the answer. If that were the best way to go, in theory, you could lose a pound a day for long lengths of time. How healthy could that be?
Seriously, you do need to workout, but you also need to feed your body. Thats why I suggested upping your intake a little and upping your expenditure as well.
Any time you change your diet by adding calories in, you need to up your burn to keep the deficit. A deficit of 500-750 a day is really good for your size.
But you want to also watch the types of food you eat. Sugar contents (natural and substitutes), sodium contents, types of fat contents, etc.
Really, its not one or the other. Exercise and diet are equal in weight loss. |

| Nicholas J thats a good point. I did look over my sodium intake and its way over the daily recommended. I need to add more vegies and start working out on the weekends. Gonna start tomorrow. |

| Wow. I was just ready to make a posting with the same title. I only lost half a pound last week and was expecting it to be more. I read over the comments and nicholas j makes really good points. (I read all of Conni's posts too!) I've been on the program only two weeks, so I don't have much advice to give. The only thing I find concerning that nicholas j has pointed out is you need to try to eat more. From a medical standpoint (yes i am in the medical field)eating anything below 1200 calories is considered starving yourself, despite how many calories you burn. I move around all day with my job and my biggest struggle is meeting my burn goal. SO Coach Lisa had mentioned she had a desk job and walks on her lunch. Maybe it could be worth a try? |

Yisa --
I think you will find that many of us who are making significant progress are working out just about EVERY DAY. I know if you are not used to it, that may seem like a lot, but once you make it a habit, it's just what you do. And honestly, it needs to be that way for your health. You can't just rely on limiting your intake to lose weight. There are two sides of the equation -- calories in AND calories out. |
