In December, 2003, I was visiting my daughter in Spokane for the Christmas holidays. I found myself getting winded climbing the stairs in her home and even just bending over to tie my shoes. I decided that I could either keep up my (then) current lifestyle and just die at an early age, or I could do something to get into shape. (My daughter jokingly says, "Dad, round is a shape.") I opted for the latter since I still have so many things to live for. When I joined the Citrus Heights World Gym and started training with Margie McDowell in March of 2004, I weighed 280 lbs. Margie patiently worked with me and I slowly began to shed those unhealthy pounds. I began to feel better, my blood pressure and heart rate had dropped, and my stamina began to increase. I was losing the unwanted weight, but my results were not coming as fast as I would have liked. I'm usually pretty skeptical about new programs and ideas, and after I became aware of the bodybugg, I watched several others begin the program. As I saw positive results in others, I decided to go for it myself. When I started the bodybugg program on January 27, 2006, my weight was 233 lbs and I had 35% body fat. When I weighed in on March 3rd, my weight had dropped to 221 lbs and my body fat had dropped to 31%. That's 12 lbs and 3% less body fat in just 5 weeks with the bodybugg. It had taken me almost 2 years to lose 50 lbs without it. I weighed myself this morning and my weight has dropped to 197lbs. I don't know what percent that works out to in body fat, but I do know that it's less than the 31% I had at my last weigh-in. My combined weight loss from the time I started training with Margie has been over 80 pounds, and 35 of those pounds have been with the bodybugg. The bodybugg by itself is not a "miracle cure," but the program has made me more aware of my daily caloric intake and burn-something that I never really paid attention to or was aware of in the past. It's that motivating awareness and my taking responsibility for my own personal accountability that has been a major factor in my most recent weight loss. I've found that I don't go without, but I've learned to do "with a little less." I still eat what I want, but I now limit my quantity, and I still work out for at least an hour a day, 5 days per week, just to keep up my calorie burn. I've found that when I have questions about my nutrition, the bodybugg, or anything else around the gym, Margie has always taken the time and is always willing to answer my questions. I've been very pleased with my weight loss results so far, and I plan to continue to participate in the bodybugg program until I get down to my goal weight of 185 lbs. Once I've achieved that goal, I plan to continue using the bodybugg just to maintain and keep my awareness of where I am regarding my caloric intake and burn. In addition to my own success at attaining my goals--and as an added ego-booster--I'm pleased and flattered that when I see people who haven't seen me in several months they say they are amazed at how much better I look, and they all say I look 10 to 20 years younger.
