Carroll Parchert: In 1992 I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes and for the last 5 years my blood sugars have been on a roller coaster.

I am 57 years old and have been struggling with my weight most of my life.  In 1992 I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes and for the last 5 years my blood sugars have been on a roller coaster.  The final straw came when I was doing retirement planning and clearly began to understand the impact my weight would have on my healthcare and drug costs.  I had to do something, but you name it and I had tried it.  I needed a program to follow that would be flexible enough for my life style and at the same time hold me accountable and give me some positive motivation.   A friend was on this program called bodybugg™, offered by the Pleasant Valley Fitness Club and encouraged me to look into it.   The bodybugg program has now become part of my daily routine.  I started the program at 318 pounds on a 5'9" frame, with 46% body fat.  Seventeen weeks, I later have lost 44 pounds and six inches from my waist, chest and thighs.  By week three my blood sugars were under control and have been rock solid since.   When I started I was taking two types of insulin for my diabetes, 240 units and four or five injections a day.  Today, I am on one type of insulin and only one injection per day in the amount of 60 units.  My doctor is ecstatic and is working with me to reduce or eliminate other medications as my weight goes down.

The program works for me because I can focus on a calorie deficit and can eat what I want as long as I keep the deficit in line.  If I don't burn enough calories, I can cut back my intake and still make my goals.  In turn, when I have a significant calorie burn day, I can have a larger meal as long I maintain my deficit.   My exercise routine includes mowing four acres of yard (with a riding mower), a half-acre garden, flowers, shrubs, and landscape projects.  As you see, I do not run or lift weights.  I have only increased my life style activities.  My "Honey Do" list is almost nonexistent.  My stamina has returned and I don't hurt for days after a hard weekend of physical labor. Every two weeks, I meet with my program counselor to go over my numbers and for a motivation session. 

The bodybugg program has met my needs.  Last week my wife started the program with me.  The next testimonial will be from both of us!
